What Public Health Authorities Say

Second-hand smoke and second-hand vapour are two different things. Smoking involves burning tobacco. Vaping, on the other hand, instead of burning tobacco, uses an atomiser with a heating element and a wick soaked in e-liquid with nicotine. When you activate the device, the heating element quickly heats up and turns the e-liquid into vapour. The resulting aerosol can be inhaled after passing through the atomiser. No tobacco smoke, just vapour.

While further studies are required and there could be as of yet uncharacterised health risks to non-users, when looking at this on a global scale, Public Health Authorities generally state that second-hand vapour is likely to be less hazardous than second-hand cigarette smoke.
